My girls(6month) dig each others face and arms and legs when i put them together and I want to clip there nails but im scared i will do it to short and hurt one of them. Whats the best way to go about this and are they to young two?Best way to clip a babies nails?
I have always found it helpful to distract my daughter while I do it by giving her a toy to play with for the other hand. I have been clipping her nails since she was 2wks old and she is 8 months now. Make sure you have a firm hand and make sure you are not grabbing the skin around, just the nail. I've never had a problem with it at all, it's easier than it looks. My best advice is if you're not sure you only got nail and not skin, don't clip!
While they are sleeping is a really easy way to start off clipping their nails, that's how i started.
Good luck!Best way to clip a babies nails?
my midwife and the plunket nurse both told me to bite his nails as they are very soft and easy to bite but i couldnt do it, i found that the nails were very soft after his shower and easy to clip then, he sits still while i clip them and i agree with the person who said to have their palm facing you, its much easier. i have been clipping his nails weekly or so since he was born. ( he is now 3 months old), saves him having to scratch himself or me when he is feeding. i was very nervous the first time but after doing it for a few times i feel more confident doing it now, have a go and see how you get on.
Six months is definitely not too young! What have you been doing the last six months? Are they super long or have you been filing them? I've discovered it's easiest to clip babies nails with the palm of their hand facing you. This way you're less likely to cut them. Also, if your babies aren't light sleepers it might be easier to cut them while they are sleeping since most babies like to squirm.
I use the adult clippers that look like scissors (they use them with fake nails too) while she's sleeping. Mainly because I can see what I'm doing clearly and there is less guess work involved. With the 'baby clippers' they are so hard to handle and can't be maneuvered easily which makes mistakes and frustration easier.
they are absolutely not too young!! no wonder they are scratching each other....their nails must be like claws! i have been cutting my son's nails since he was about 2 weeks old. the best time is while they are asleep and just don't cut below the white of the nail.
I used to bite them off, because I could use my mouth to feel exactly where her delicate skin started. It's so easy to nick baby's skin, so this helped me to not do it. I also always did it when my daughter was asleep, so she kept still.
Do it when they are sleeping. That way you have less chance of them moving. I nibble on my son's while he is eating. Not supposed to I guess, but he doesnt mind and actually smiles at me cause he thinks its funny.
i wait til my son is asleep, he and his uncle do this to each other all the time too, my son is 5 months old and my brother is close to 7 months
I sing a song to my son and clip his nails (he's a few days from turning 1) and he loves it. He's awake and likes to participate..lol
I file my son's nails. When he was that age I did it when he was napping.
He's 16 months now. I file them when he's distracted watching home videos on the computer.
I always have cut my kids nails when sleeping when that young. My son is 13 months old and I still have to do it when he's sleeping as he moves way too much when awake.
Wait until they are sleep.
I'm sure people think it's gross but I bite my 4 month olds nails. It's the only way I know I won't hurt her.
when they are sleeping lol my daughter is 16 months and i still do it this way sometimes. its a wrestling match if i dont
