Is it normal for a child to eat her nails ?

I have a 10 year old daughter who use to eat her nails,i dont know what to do for her stop it,I keep on telling her that it's not normal for a child to eat nails,I even told her that she might eat the bacteria her nails have.Is it normal for a child to eat her nails ?

A child either Does it by habit or by nervousness. Either way its something thats not healthy so the best way to get your child from doing un healthy things is to train them with love concern and when things are taught that way most of the time the child is reseptive to the love from their parents. Its normal, but heres how you stop it- when she's asleep, put clear fingernail polish on her nails. She goes to Chomp and she goes to UpChuck
Well, first off, i wouldn't be to concerned about the bacteria thing, if she has bacteria on her nails she will get it without even eating her nails (from eating, touching face, etc...) so don't worry about that. Also, i dont' think there is nesscarily anything terribly wrong with it. I think it's just a habit she has made, maybe to comfort herself, like twiddling her hair or sucking her thumb. You wouldn't want it to continue for to terribly wrong, but in and of itself it isn't that bad of a thing. If you are really worried though i would suggest asking a licsensed psychologist. Good luck!

It is not normal but it's also not unusual. You could rub your daughter's nails with hot chilli juice. I know it's cruel but she will thank you for it as a teenager.

i used to bite my nails because a lot of people i knew were doing the same, but i've never heard of eating nails. just think, she's putting calcium in her body. Forget about it because she's just a kid and she'll eventually grow out of that stage.
I used to bite my nails and eat them when I was that age. My mom bought me clear nail polish from Sally Hansen called Nail Biters. It tasted awful, it made me stop biting my nails.
Good Heavens, kids eat everything except the things we tell them are good for them, soooo, perhaps telling her in the morning you did some research and found that it is wonderful that she's doing this..it's supplying some wonderful nutrient to make her appear beautiful to boys!! That reverse psychology thing.. LOL....I wouldn't worry too much...as long as she has good hand washing habits, hopefully she'll grow tired of it. 3M Removable Utility Hooks with Command鈩?Adhesive are what you seem to be seeking, the hercules hooks still make a hole, best way will always be nails or screws and anchors. I've rented and if the walls are flat white you can easily fill/hide the holes from nails and picture hangers with lightweight plaster and your finger. Shelves almost have to be installed with screws and/or anchors as they need the strength and dependability. Any adhesives are going to ruin paint and finishes when removed, but do offer a fastener free application.Are there any products i can use to put shelves and pictures up without screws or nails (UK)?
If you imagine how much weight a shelf has to carry, I don't think you're likely to find anything that doesn't leave a hole. It's just a case of how big the hole will be and whether you can hide it.


When people rent you a flat, they can't expect you not to leave some sort of holes in the wall. As long as you fill them when you move, they can't complain.

There are various picture hooks now that do not show when they are removed. Some are a combination of very small pins, which you can tap in with a light weight hammer and which are quite strong, through to something as simple as blu-tack.


Shelves is a bit more difficult. Simplest is to buy a free standing 'bookcase' type unit. You can take it with you easily to the next flat. Buy a reasonable one pine bookcase, not the cheapest, and you'll have it for life. Believe me, they are never out of use. If you can't use it in your house when you are older, you'll use it in a garage.

Just a comment about 'No More Nails' which is being widely recommended to you. This IS a very good product - BUT - it is only as good as what you are sticking it to! We stuck Dado rails onto an emulsioned wall at work as a guide for a blind chap. What we did not know was that the Vinyl emulsion on the walls had been painted over Gloss paint. the Dado's came down quite quickly, complete with a strip of the emulsion coat they were stuck to!





As it is a fiver or so a tube any way, I would be more inclined to buy a cheap flat pack free standing shelving unit.
Use - NO MORE NAILS. When this is applied correctly and with a bit of forethought, it virtually sticks anything to anything.





You could sand it off after you no longer need it, then emulsion over the dry marks.
That was for hanging pictures, not putting up shelves!

Most DIY shops sell stick-on picture hooks. They stick to painted walls or vinyl wallcovering. Don't use them on papered walls or your pictures will fall off and tear the paper.
Floor standing shelves. Those products advertised are brilliant as long as you don't put anything on those shelves.
My friend had hooks with double sided tape that had this cool tab you pulled when you want to remove them and it takes away any trace of it. No idea what they're called.
Jedi Knight's got it right- the product you'd have saw advertised on TV is called 'No More Nails'. It's one of those 'that does exactly as it says on the tin'!

Yes, I use hercuhooks and they are great. They look like a long curved hook and hold quite well. And, they only leave a pin size hole in your wall.

This isn't going to help in only a week but after a while this is going to help alot . go buy an electric nail file for manicures ( it'll be like 15 dollars and you can charge it over and over i've had mine for 4 years i got it at walmart you can really get them anywhere walmart target you get the point) and let your nails grow some than file them down than let them grow than file them down and eventually let them keep getting longer and longer . Nail clipper make little cracks in you nails and make them weaker and break more easy but filing them does not. With in a few mounts you'll have long strong nails
I have no idea of the name of this stuff unfortunatly but when i was 6 or 7 i used to bit my names constanly...my aunt pretended to paint my nails once but she put this stuff on instead but the min the put your nails to your mouth theres a putrid taste...it lingers for ages and its impossible to get rid of but you will never bite yur nails again!!!its great stuff...i would say to do a google search or something would be ur best bet...miraclegro i think it could have been called :) hope this helps :)

I been have this spot since i remember as a kid, but more in my teens, since i was a kid,i grew up with a lot of dairy products. My doctor says that i got pretty strong bones but since i turned 19 years old , i stop getting the same amount of calcium in my daily diet.What can i do to get my nails back on track ,without those white spots? White spots on the fingernail are not caused by calcium deficiencies but is likely due to a past (non-serious) injury to the base of the nail, or less commonly because of an underlying infection. They're called leukonychia and can take a while to show up - around 6 weeks after the injury has occurred. The spots also take about 8 months or more to grow out and disappear, but if it's still hanging around long after this it would be worth checking out with your GP. If it is leukonychia though, it is very common and nothing to worry about.

A) they are from a lack of calcium, yes.


B) they are from past injuries to your nail beds, sort of like scarring.





So, I don't know. Consume more calcium if it's really worrying you that badly, but its not dangerous. But if the answer is option B, then I'd assume there isn't much you can do?
Are you talking about the white spots near closest to the finger? Those spots are normal. Most people have them.

When a dog's nails are kept long, they are susceptible to chipping, splitting and cracking. Trim the dogs nails and possible more raod walking ( naturally keeps them short) although that's not a guarantee that the nails will be healthy.


The herb calendula reduces inflammation and helps damaged nails heal. Combine it in an herbal rinse with St. John's Wort, which reduces swelling and helps kill bacteria and fungi.Combine 1 tsp. of each tincture in 1/4 cup of water, rinsing the nails and nail beds once a day.

my choc lab has that problem. the vet put her on gelatin capsules to treat the nails. then i have to apply crazy glue like nail polish about once a week to hold them together.
your local groomer has some stuff you can get it like lotion but you put them on the nails....call around vets might have it.
change your food will help, its all in what the dog eats.


i clip my dogs every 3 or 4 months, don't clip for nothing, it's not good.
What are you feeding her? Maybe you should try another brand of food with better ingredients. Food can make a big difference in a dogs nails and over all health
are they really long? if so try clipping or as i prefer dremeling their nails. or you can file them too.
