How do i stop biting my nails?

i bite my nails once and a while but when i do i bite my nails all the way down. i dont notice until a long while later. then they're all gross. any advice?How do i stop biting my nails?
I bit my nails for a long time when I were a child, but I stopped. Look closely at what might cause it. Is it boredom? Is it stress? Is it hunger? Just playing, seriously, try to substitute this habit with something.
