Best way to stop bitting nails?

I'm learning guitar, so I have to grow my right hand nails out. I tried only bitting my left hand nails. I had my nails growing for a week, but I just bit the pinky nail off and didn't realize I did it until I spit the nail out.Best way to stop bitting nails?
This may sound weird, but it worked for me-allow yourself only two nails to bite and then decrease the biting to one nail until you're off the habit. Since you're not a girl, I guess I can't tell you to paint them and make them look pretty so you feel guilty ruining the paint job. Have you tried putting cayenne pepper under your nails? try not biting the nails at all. or try chewing gum often to stop the habbit
Yeah chewing gum will help. They also sell spicy or bitter polish that helps people stop biting their nails. Also to make them grow faster eat anything with a lot of gelatin. Gummie bears , worm ,or Jello. It makes your hair and nails grow faster and stronger

Use a nail polish which wil reduce the habit of bitting nail.use a tonic to apply on ur nail naned as ';femure';.
I know this might sound a bit weird... lol But try putting vinegar... or anything else that you don't like the smell of. Everytime u go 2 bite ur nails, u will quickly stop it, cos of the bad taste ;-)

Try relaxing more... Probably hard to do in a big city like Chicago. We visit once a month and I get nervous being around so many buildings and people. My wife on the other hand loves it, so I put up with my feelings of uncertainty so she can enjoy it. In doing so, I've found how much I love the Lake Michigan and that seems to calm my spirit...
umm.....i have the same habbit but try eating candy or chewing gum.
put on clear nail polish and to stop the habit maybe chew some gum to offset your mind.....
since your a dude i would try getting someone to give you a menicure or try just using clear nail polish
