What size of nails are used to attach baseboard to walls?

Since your base molding will be about 5/8 thick and your drywall will be 1/2'; or 5/8'; thick, you will need a minimum size of a 6d finish nail. We typically use a 2-1/4 '; nail with a power nailer, that way it sets the nail below the surface of the wood, thereby making it easier to fill the nail holes before painting or staining it. If you are using a 6d finish nail, you will need a nail set to set the nails into the wood. It is a small ';punch'; like tool that you use by putting the point into the small depression on the head of the finishing nail, then giving it several taps with a hammer to sink it 1/8'; into the wood. If you try to locate a wall stud, you should be able to measure 16'; on center to locate a solid nailing point for the baseboard. You will always have solid nailing available 1-1/2 inches up from the subfloor, but nailing the top of the base molding every 32 '; insures a tight fit to the wall. If it doesn't lie flat, add some nails at 16'; on center. Just a tip...if the baseboard is to be painted, prime and paint it before applying it to the wall....it makes life much easier. All you will have to do afterward is putty and pain the nail holes. What size of nails are used to attach baseboard to walls?

That was an extremely well thought out answer. Nothing to add to that fine answer.

They are called finish nails. Take care Heather
depending on the thickness of the base board you have either a 4 penny or an 6 penny nail will work

if you are putting up door casing you should use either a 8 penny or an 10 penny nail
I would recomend atleast a 2 1/2'; finish nail in the 6 penny range for up to 1/2'; trim and door casing.
32mm.
