How to cut cats nails??? Very nervous need help.?

I need to cut my cats nails and I can't find any groomers in my area that will do it for me. I need to know details on how to do this. I need to know exactly what type of clippers to buy and what to do if she resists as I know she will. Please give as many details as possible because i don't want to hurt her.How to cut cats nails??? Very nervous need help.?
Supplies:

-Nail clippers (baby ones are best but most any will work)

-Bath towel

-Delicious treats (I usually use bits of chicken or deli meat)

-Cat

-Assistant (optional but VERY helpful)

Instructions:

1) Wrap cat in towel so only her head is sticking out

2) Remove one front paw from towel

3) Give cat a treat

4) Gently apply pressure at the base of the cat's toes to push the claws out

5) Carefully clip off the tip of each claw on that paw, making sure not to cut the quick (the darker colored part in the core). Also make sure you get the dew claw, it's kind of their ';thumb'; and it can be a little tricky

6) Wrap that paw back up

7) Repeat steps 3-6 until all the nails are clipped

It's not that hard, and if you pick a really tasty treat your cat might even enjoy it :)How to cut cats nails??? Very nervous need help.?
You can find cat clippers in almost any pet store. Dog clippers are too strong and large so don't use those for your cat. If all else fails, you can use rabbit/guinea pig nail trimmers. Most cats put up a fight especially if they aren't used to it, so I wait until my cats are sleeping. When you extend the nail (by gently squeezing the tips of the paw) you'll see a clear part at the very tip of the nail. That is the part that you want to clip. You'll also see a pinkish reddish area, and that is the quick (the part that you don't want to clip) carefully cut each claw (there are five on each front paw and four on each back paw) if your cat doesn't tolerate it, then you can just clip the front ones and do the back ones later on in the day. If your cat doesn't like it being done while he is resting, then when he is awake, give him some cat treats and that might help distract him!

If you feel scared, or think you might hurt your kitty, you can ask someone to help you (it is much easier with two people) or have your vet do it. They can show you how and it'll be much better for your cat. All the best!
First it's best to wrap your cat up in a towel to keep it from clawing you as you have better control over it. If you have another person there to help you, you can prevent the cat from hurting itself, your clothes, and you.

There are 3 main kinds of 'claw clippers' that you can use. First off is the guillotine type, the scissors type which is slightly larger, and a standard human fingernail clipper.

You put the clipper in your right hand or left hand depending on if your right or left handed as you would normally do.

After getting your cat in an easy to handle position apply pressure to the center of the paw to unsheathe the claws.

The claws are normally clear, you may see the center after a while turns a pinkish color, this is the quick, and its full of blood. All of the pain from clipping your cats nails comes from clipping the quick.

You want the claw cut approximately 2 mm from the quick. You need to cut slowly to prevent bleeding if you accidental cut the quick.

If you cut the quick because the claw is too short, you can use a styptic pencil containing silver nitrate to stop blood flow. Your cat may object highly to this. The black end of the stick is held to the bleeding nail and gently rotated.

However not to worry without this the bleeding will stop within 5 or less minutes.

I hope you and your cat have a good expierence and I hope this helped you!
Get a cat nail clippers (they're cheap). If your cat lets you handle its paws, great. If not, find a helper to gently grasp some of the loose skin around the cat's shoulder blades. With a lot of cats, simply holding that skin relaxes them. With others, the helper might need to lift their front paws off the ground a little by their neck scruff.

You press their paw pad between your two fingers until the nail extends. Then, clip the tip off. Don't clip the pink part (the nails are somewhat transparent, you should be able to see the pink part). I try to work pretty quick, because my cats lose patience with it after a minute or so :)

You only really need to do the front paws - the back paws aren't the ones that damage your furniture usually
okay, these are the best clippers....

you might want to get somebody to help you, depending on how your cat will act.

get somebody to hold your cats scruff either on her side or she can be sitting up (whichever is most comfortable for her), you just don't want her to bite you

if you notice on their toes, you have to push gently at their ';knuckle'; to make their nail come out, you should practice this a few times before you actually start trimming

next, most cats quicks are very short, you'll notice where it gets darker on her nail you do NOT want to cut that, that is the nail bed. so for the first few times, you can just practice by trimming the tips.

good luck! and remember, two people are much better than one!
Clip the tips; if you look at the nail you'll see a red/pinkish thing in the nail Don't cut it it will cause your cat pain. Go to the pet store and go to the cat section they will have clippers there. However, I'm suprised you can't find anyone to clip your cats nails. Call your vet see if they will show you the proper way to do it.
this can be tricky depending on how calm your cat is. find a time when your cat is someone sleepy %26amp; NOT playful and active.

set her on your lap and hold a paw in one hand. hold the nail clipper in the other hand.

with the hand holding the paw, squeeze gently until the claws come out. using the nail clipper, clip the very tip (no more than like 2mm) of the nail. if you look at the nail. you will see a pinkish part towards her paw -- don't clip that! only clip the very tip of the nail %26amp; it won't hurt her.

i like to clip the nail holding the nail clipper sideways (because it will cut the nail on its flat side %26amp; won't hurt the cat). notice their nails aren't flat like our nails, rather they are flat the other way, when you look from the side.

hope that helps %26amp; good luck. you may also need someone to either hold the cat %26amp; feed her snacks while you clip if she doesn't stay still. or have someone else clip her nails while you hold her still.
Buy a small clipper that is curved and the labeling should say ';For Cats';. I bought mine at Target and it's pretty cheap. Press her hand open and only clip these white area. Avoid quicks (pink vein in nails) you can easily see them so just avoid them or it will bleed and hurt.
just cut the tips of your cats nails with regularnail clippers and cut them side ways because then they wont break
clip just the tips thats all they need
Hi, i took a grooming course not that long ago and have experience grooming cats dogs and rabbits. It would be ideal to get a pair of cat clippers, but it is just as easily done with human nail clippers. You may want to get someone to hold your cat while you do this as she might not be comfortable with this process. Hold her paws so her claws come out, if her claws are white this should be easier because you will see pink in her nail, that is a vein called a 'quick'. If you clip her vein she will bleed and it will hurt her. If her claws are black then just clip after where they start to curve. If you are really nervous about this you should bring her to a groomer to have it done. Typically it costs $5-$10. Most pet groomers, pet shops or shelters have someone who can do it for you. If using human nail clippers hold them sideways while clipping her claws because cats have curved claws and holding them like you normally would for your own nails can cause discomfort. Good Luck.
